8 Reasons a Church Should Hold Revival Meetings

On a sad note, I am getting more and more reports of churches that are no longer holding church revivals. I believe this is a tragic mistake on the part of the Pastor and his leadership.
Let me give you a few reasons we hold revival meetings throughout the year (and have for many years)
A concentrated week of Bible preaching has a powerful effect on the hearts and lives of God's people. God says in Isa_55:11, "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void..." This is a promise of God and when we deliberately exposes ourselves to the preaching of God's Word repeatedly, it will strengthen our faith and revive our spirit.
An evangelist can often confront issues in the Christian life from a different angle than the Pastor can.
A week of revival meetings can breakup the potential "rut" that a church can get into with the regular weekly church schedule.
God has used special revival meetings throughout church history to awaken the church to it's slip into worldliness and apathy and to bring it back to a dynamic relationship with the Lord. During an old-fashioned revival meeting, God stirred my grandfather, Samuel Leatherman, to create a "family altar" in their home. This had a significant impact on my father, who then greatly influenced my decision to come to Christ for salvation.
God has gifted many evangelists with an ability to preach and apply the Word of God in powerful and practical ways.
The evangelist's message often compliments and reinforces the pastor's message.
Receiving the same message from a new or "fresh" perspective can often reinforce truths that the pastor regularly preaches and teaches, but are sometimes overlooked by church members.
People will often come to special revival meetings that do not come to regular church services. A special revival meeting can give our church members to invite unsaved family and friends to church.
Having an evangelist in for a week is a great help to the pastor. Fellowshipping and getting insights from the Evangelist is refreshing and very helpful to the pastor.
We have seen many people baptized and added to our church membership as a result of a week of revival meetings.
The list could go on and on as to the benefits of having revival services on a regular basis. I am convinced that our church is spiritually stronger in many ways because of the many revival meetings and evangelists we have had through here over the years.
