A Precious Psalm

Psalm 37 has become one of the most precious of Psalms to me personally.  Over the last several years, God has used the truths in this 40-verse chapter to help me in a number of ways.

Here are a few thoughts from a few verses in this blessed portion of Scripture:

• There is an INDITEMENT when I fret and worry over situations and individuals. (Verses 1,7,8), "Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity...Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil." Three times God says very emphatically, "fret not thyself."  To "fret" is to "get worked up" over something; to get "uptight" about a person or situation. 
  

• There is an INCITEMENT to trust and rest in the Lord; to commit myself and my situation to the Lord, do exactly what He says and trust Him to bring about a successful solution. (Verses 3-7), "Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass." God's great and continual challenge to His people is simply, "trust Me and follow my directions!"
  

• There is an EXCITEMENT about what God has promised to do in and through my life when I refuse to fret and decide rather to trust!
  

There are so many powerful truths and principles in this one great chapter.  Take some time today and read through Psalm 37.  I believe you will get a blessing just as I have many times over the years.
