Revival Questions

The following list is not original to me.  I'm not sure where I originally came across these questions, but they have been very helpful in my spiritual growth over the years. I believe they can help prepare our hearts for the revival we so desperately need in our hearts, homes, and churches.

Prayerfully, consider the following questions. Go through these questions one by one. Answer each question truthfully.

  • Is there anyone against whom I hold a grudge? Matthew 6:12-14, "And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Anyone I have not forgiven? Anyone I hate? Anyone I do not love? Are there any misunderstandings that I am unwilling to forget? Is there any person against whom I am harboring bitterness, resentment, or jealousy? Anyone I dislike hearing praised or spoken of well? Do I allow anything to justify a wrong attitude toward another?

  • Is there anything in which I have failed to put God first? Matthew 6:33, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Have my decisions been made after my own wisdom and desires, rather than by seeking and following God’s will? Do any of the following in any way interfere with my surrender and service to God: ambition, pleasures, loved ones, friendships, desire for recognition, money, my own plans?

  • Have I failed to seek the lost for Christ? Have I failed to witness consistently with my mouth for the Lord Jesus Christ? Mark 16:15, "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Has my life not shown to the lost the Lord Jesus?

  • Have I robbed God by withholding His due of time, talents, and money? Acts 20:35, "I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive." Have I given less than a tenth of my income for God’s work? Have I failed to support mission work either in prayer or in offerings?

  • Am I undependable so that you cannot be trusted with responsibilities in the Lord’s work? 1 Corinthians 4:2, "Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful." Am I allowing my emotions to be stirred for the things of the Lord but doing nothing about it?

  • Do I complain? Ephesians 4:31-32, "Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you." Do I find fault? Do I have a critical attitude towards any person or anything? Am I irritable or cranky? Do I ever carry hidden anger? Do I get angry? Do I become impatient with others? Am I ever harsh or unkind?

  • Do I listen to or look at unedifying radio, television programs, or websites? Ephesians 5:11, "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them." Do I read unworthy magazines? Do I visit unholy websites? Do I partake in worldly amusements? Do I feel the need to seek satisfaction from any questionable source? Am I doing certain things that show that I am not satisfied in the Lord Jesus Christ?

  • Have I neglected to thank Him for all things, the seemingly bad as well as the good? Ephesians 5:20, "Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;" Have I virtually called God a liar by doubting His Word? Do I worry? Is my spiritual temperature based on my feelings instead of on the facts of God’s Word?

  • Am I taken up with the cares of this life? Philippians 1:21, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." Is my conversation or heart joyful over things rather than the Lord and His Word? Does anything mean more to me than living for and pleasing God?

  • Do I stay away from the meetings of preaching the gospel? Hebrews 10:25, "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." Do I whisper or think about other things while God’s Word is being read or preached? Am I irregular in attendance at services? Do I neglect to attend or participate in prayer meetings? Have I neglected or slighted daily or private prayer? Have I neglected God’s Word? Do I find the Bible and prayer uninteresting? Have I neglected thanksgiving at meals? Have I neglected daily family devotions?

We are all very concerned about the condition of our country and what we have become as a nation.  There is no doubt in my mind that the cure for our country's condition is found in the revival of our Bible-preaching churches and God's people submitting to the final authority of God's Word.
