The Blessings of Prayer

One of the greatest blessings God has given to His people is the blessing of prayer.  Nevertheless, it is this matter of prayer that we so often neglect.

Below are a few of the blessings of prayer.  Perhaps these thoughts will prompt us to be more diligent and consistent in our prayer lives.

  • Prayer Brings the Blessing of Knowing I am Obeying God.  God doesn't simply invite or suggest to us to pray; He commands us to pray!  When we pray, we are being obedient to God.  There is great joy and blessing in knowing that I am acting in obedience to my God.

  • Prayer Brings the Blessing of Being Shielded From Temptation. (See Mark 14:38)  Prayer in and of itself is a protection or "hedge" from Satanic attack and fleshly temptations.  I am afraid that there are many temptations we face unnecessarily.  If we would but pray earnestly and consistently, perhaps we wouldn't have to deal with so many temptations.

  • Prayer Brings the Blessing of Revival. (see 2 Chronicles 7:17)  Notice that this passage does not say "pray for revival!"  It simply says "pray."  Behind every saved soul is a praying Christian!  Behind every revived church  is a praying member.  Behind every godly home is a praying family member.  Behind every commissioned missionary is a praying believer (Matt. 9:37-38)

  • Prayer Brings the Blessing of Seeing What God Can Do!  Without prayer, the most I can get is what I can produce, but WITH PRAYER, I can get what GOD can produce!  Prayer puts me in touch with the supernatural!  When a sinner cries out for salvation in prayer, he gets the salvation that GOD produces!  When a Christian cries out for power in prayer, he gets the power GOD produces.

To the average Christian, consistent and earnest prayer is a continual challenge.  Lets give ourselves to prayer in the coming weeks.  Let's discipline ourselves and determine that daily, earnest prayer will be a priority in our lives, and lets anticipate God doing great and mighty things in our lives and churches.
