"I question whether anyone is more orthodox than the devil; for the devils believe and tremble. Satan is no skeptic; he has too much knowledge for that." - Charles Spurgeon.
James 2:19 tells us that Satan and his devils are no atheist! He's not THAT foolish!!
What exactly does the Devil believe? The Bible clearly tells us a bit about the Devil's "religion."
The Devil Believes In The One And Only True God.
James 2:19, "Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble." The Devil is monotheistic! In the account of Satan's fall in Isaiah 14 the Bible makes it clear that Satan does not seek to eliminate God, but to be "like" God. He does not deny God's position and authority, Satan just wants equal authority.
The Devil Believes In The Deity Of Jesus Christ.
Mark 3:11, "And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God."
The Devil Believes In The Reality Of Hell.
Luke 8:31, "And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep."
The Devil And His Devils Recognize Jesus Authority Over Them.
Mark 5:3-13, "Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones. But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. And he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country. Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine feeding. And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them. And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, (they were about two thousand;) and were choked in the sea."
Job 1:5-12, "And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually. Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD."
The Devil Believes The Bible.
Matthew 4:5-6, "But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone."
Satan quotes the Bible in his temptation of Jesus Christ, twisting God's Word to draw Jesus (and all mankind) out of the will of God. Don't be fooled, the Devil knows the Bible better than any of use.
Genesis 3:1, "Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?"
Satan successfully lures mankind to question God's Word. I cannot find anywhere that the Devil questions God's Word himself.
Satan does not necessary want all of us to be atheists, he simply wants to keep us from trusting and obeying the Lord.
Our response to the Devil's "religion" is to thoroughly submit ourselves to the Lord, and resist the Devil by faith with the "sword" of the spirit, which is the Word of God.
